Luke 17

Key Idea: The Second Coming

Summary: How is everyone doing this summer? I am up to my elbows in diapers, running noses and floaties. We’ve been swimming everyday and it’s been so much fun!! Mimi is famous for her “dolphin” dive. Ha!!!

In class, we’ve been in Luke 17 discussing Jesus’s response to the question of the Kingdom of God. Jesus is building God's kingdom and it had already begun…it was in their midst. As we had seen earlier in the gospel it starts small, but grows so big that it impacts and influences all the nations. Like yeast, it transforms from the inside out.

Of course, the super cool thing is that as Jesus continues His conversation He discusses a very different coming of the Son of Man. This time His coming will not be subtle, but will be seen from one end of the earth to the other. He comes as a Righteous King to bring judgment, restore and redeem His own. Praise God that we will not experience condemnation because we are covered by the blood of THE Lamb. We stand righteous before Him because He has clothed us with His righteousness.

Just like God clothed Adam and Eve in the Garden after their sin, He has clothed us and all who put their faith in His Son with the very righteousness of God!!

This is good news!! Especially after reading the papers this week. Think of any movie or book where the hero finally overcomes evil, brings justice and saves the people…Tangled, Zorro, Braveheart, etc. It’s going to be so much better than that!!!! Praise God that even when times are dark He is still King, and yes, He is the still the Light even in the darkness. To those who look to Him He gives strength for the day, wisdom for the way, and a hope that is sure!!!

P.S. If you get a chance read the last part of chapter 17. WE hope to finish our discussion on the Second Coming tomorrow.
