Drawing from a Well of Unfailing Love

The only love that is safe is the love of God. The only love that is total and fills our deepest need is the love of God.

There is no other.

I was sitting on a bus getting ready for a road trip. The choir director was giving instruction, classmates were putting parcels on the upper shelves and there was a sweet hum of activity all around me.

When all of a sudden this deep sense of aloneness filled me.

I wanted desperately to be known and loved, and realized there was no way that any flesh and blood person could fill that need.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and friends and am soooooo grateful for them!!! But as dear and rich as the love of others may be, it is not unfailing.

Only God’s love never fails!!

Last night, I picked up “Praying God’s Word” by Beth Moore. She tells a story of going through a difficult time in her life. A time when she desperately needed to be in God’s ICU. She describes this picture of having an empty cup which she kept trying to get others to fill.

“Will someone, please, fill my cup? Even a tablespoon will help.”

When the LORD led her to Psalm 143:8.

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.”

O what a heavy yoke is shattered when we awaken in the morning and bring our hearts, minds, and all our needs to the Lover of our souls. We offer Him our empty cups and ask Him to fill them with Himself!!

Who else has the capacity to fill our cups to the brim and overflowing?

He is the only one who is never overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of our need.

Imagine how different our days would be if we had our cups filled first thing in the morning. During the course of the day if anyone else would add just a teaspoon…it would overflow an already full cup.

This is the kind of person who would never lack friends or affection. Why?  Because he or she would draw daily from the well of unfailing love. Then we would know from blessed experience what the apostle Paul meant when he said, “You are complete in Him.” Colossians 2:10 (KJV)
