HOW THE WENCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

Years ago, while my children were still at home, I had an opportunity to speak to a group of parents in the month of December. I wanted to do something fun and creative. So, I wrote a poem based upon Dr. Suess’s famous story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I had so much fun writing it and asked my son to illustrate a HUGE book cover that everyone in the audience could see.

It was a hoot!!!

He drew this mom-like Grinch, if you can imagine…wearing HUGE gold earrings.

I found it recently while cleaning up one of my closets, I still laugh when I read it. Enjoy!!!

The moms down in Momville, liked Christmas a lot,
but the wench who was too busy
        cooking
            and cleaning
                and shopping…DID NOT!

She fussed and she fumed,
    she had quite a ‘tude,
and no one knew exactly WHY
she was in SUCH a bad mood.

No matter what the
    they couldn’t do anything right.
And when her hubby came home…oof!!
he stayed out of her sight.

The kids got up LATE, and their work wasn’t done.
    THAT’S IT!!!
        No more cookies,
            no more food,
                AND NO MORE FUN!!!

“EH, EH, EH!” Snarled she,
    from her belly
        with a laugh.

I’ll take the Christmas spirit…and I’ll slice it in half!!

She grumbled and complained,
    she mumbled and moaned.
She grounded them for the weekend
and grounded them from the phone.

What was once a happy home
where the kids liked to putter,
        is now GLOOM AND DOOM
            …all because of MOTHER!

For SHE has the power
    to hold up
        or tear down.

She can cheer everyone’s spirit
        OR
    be grumpy
        and frown.

You see,
    the reason for the season
can be found in EVERY place.

But don’t forget
    MOM AND DAD,
It should be found in YOUR HEART
            and WORN on your F A C E!!

Even though it’s been a few years, and my children have children of their own, I still find it a good reminder.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
