Stickers, Notes & Displays of Love

To my surprise was an envelope addressed to Mimi, covered with stickers in my mailbox. When my children were young, I had them practice their handwriting and composition skills by writing letters to family.

Now, here was one in my mailbox.

Just a sweet handwritten note with blue colored pencil thanking me for birthday dates and a playroom from my eight-year-old granddaughter, Maranatha. Our house has transitioned as the grands have aged. But photos on the wall, books on shelves and scribbled notes displayed around the house give a sweet aroma of the love of family.

Growing up with a deaf mother made the visual important.

Our house was always decorated with notes, “I love you” signs and trinkets from family vacations. All serving as reminders of special memories and the simple love of family.

Why is love so deep and rich? I think it’s because it is what we are made for.

There was love before the universe came into existence. And there can be no love unless there is someone to love. Within the Godhead, the Father, Son and Spirit love each other. Their love for each other is deep and overflowing. It is hard to grasp.

Yet, it is the love of God that brought the universe and each one of us into existence.

He, too, is visual and has left us reminders of His love!

He has left us written note that we can pick up and read anytime we need to remember how much we are loved. He has created a world with magnificent mountains, quiet beaches, waterfalls, furry animals and funny bugs all reflecting His power, majesty, and unfathomable intellect. He has given us food from the earth that delights our palates, and taste buds to enjoy them. He causes the sun to rise on the just and unjust; and gives rain to feed the earth and refresh us all.

And if that isn’t enough, He gives Himself… and draws us into the love of God.

God’s love is experienced when we receive it and when we give it.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God…if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” I John 4:7 & 11

Is there someone in your life hard to love? Go ahead and lean into the love of God. Take a fresh look at the reminders of His love. Drink fully from His well and pour out His love to others leaving a heavenly aroma wherever you go.
