FRONT AND CENTER

One of my favorite Starbucks is right by our house. Favorite because it’s close and they make a pretty good Chai. After placing my order and driving up to the window, I read a sticker that someone placed on their window. It says, “be kind.”

So, while waiting for my Chai, I think about it.

Then I wonder, why do I have to be reminded? By now, you should be laughing!! We all need to be reminded. In fact, being kind comes straight from the Scriptures. Not only are we told to remember to be kind, we are told to remember all of God’s commands. In fact, just for fun I’m going to look up how many times the word “remember” appears in the Scriptures.

Are you ready? Before I give the answer that’s look at a few things we are to remember.

 - Remember this day when you came out of Egypt
 - Remember you were a slave in Egypt
 - Remember the commandments of the LORD
 - Remember the mighty and awesome works of God
 - Remember the words of God and meditate on them
 - Remember the LORD who is great and awesome and all His mighty deeds
 - Remember God’s goodness and lovingkindness
 - Remember the words of the LORD Jesus

We are told to remember because we are prone to forget! And if you doubt this, just read the history of the Israelites, and take a good look at the history of the church.

It is because we are forgetful, that it is important to keep the Word of God front and center!!

The other day while I was helping my daughter with the foster babies; well really, I was doing so little because the kids have jumped in to help carry the babies, feed the babies, and even change their diapers. But I was there to help with dishes and play with the kids. Ha!!!

After setting the table for dinner, it is customary for Daddy to read the Scriptures.

They had just finished a book and it was time to choose another. One of the kids shouted out “Numbers. Let’s read the book of Numbers.”

So, Daddy opened up His Bible and began to read…

“Now the sons of Reuben, Israel’s first-born, their genealogical registration by their families, by their father’s households, according to the number of names, head by head…were 46,500. Then there was Simeon, Gad, Judah, Issachar, and the list went on.

You should’ve seen the kids roll their eyes.

Well, it’s a good thing that Daddy has a sense of humor!!

He reminded the family that this is God’s Word and God has a reason for telling us these things. Then with a twinkle in his eye, he added... it might’ve been nice if Moses had just said, Reuben had 46,500, Simeon 59,300 and so forth, but God has a reason for what He tells us in His word.

He finished reading the chapter and everyone chowed down.

As I watched the kids care for the foster babies and help with the dishes, I was reminded once again how important it is to keep the Word of God front and center.

How about you? How do you keep the word of God front and center? I would love to hear from you. Contact me at By the way, the word remember is used 161 times in the ESV☺
