Highlands Bible Church - Name Change
We have some exciting news: North Highlands Bible Church plans to begin using Highlands Bible Church as our public name on November 15, 2026.
Here are a few important dates to put on your calendar:
September 27 | All-Church Family Meeting
6:00–7:00 PM at North Highlands Bible Church
This will be a chance to hear more about the name, why we believe it is a helpful step for our church, and ask any questions you may have.
November 1 | Post-Service Business Meeting
We will hold an advisory vote regarding the use of Highlands Bible Church as our DBA/public name.
November 15 | Highlands Bible Church
Our first Sunday gathering using Highlands Bible Church as our public name.

Is the church changing its name?
We are changing the name we use publicly from North Highlands Bible Church to Highlands Bible Church.
Our legal name will remain North Highlands Bible Church. Highlands Bible Church will be the name you see on our signs, website, social media, printed materials, and everywhere else we introduce ourselves to our community.
Why are we changing the name?
Church leadership has discussed a name change for many years. We want a name that is easy to remember, easy to use in conversation, and clear about something that matters deeply to us as a church.
Highlands Bible Church does all three. It is simple and memorable, it sounds natural when you tell someone where you go to church, and it puts “Bible” in the name people will actually use.
Why Highlands Bible Church?
“Highlands” allows us to continue identifying with the Lake Highlands community where we have gathered for worship for over 60 years. “Bible” clearly identifies something central to who we are and what we believe as a church.
Why make this change now?
We believe this is a good time to make the change as we celebrate 135 years of God's faithfulness to our church and look toward the future.
This isn't about leaving our history behind. North Highlands Bible Church is part of our story, and it will remain our legal name. Highlands Bible Church simply gives us a simpler way to carry that same church into the years ahead.
Is anything about the church itself changing?
No. This is a change to the name we use publicly, not a change in who we are or what we believe.
What name should I use?
You may still see North Highlands Bible Church in certain legal or financial contexts because that remains the church's legal name, but, going forward, we would love for you to simply call us “Highlands Bible Church” or “Highlands Bible” when talking with friends, neighbors, coworkers, and others in the community.
How much will this cost the church?
Very little.
Because we are not changing the church's legal name, we did not need to create a new legal entity. We filed an Assumed Name Certificate with the Texas Secretary of State allowing North Highlands Bible Church to do business publicly as Highlands Bible Church. The filing fee was $25, and the certificate is effective for 10 years.
Most of the remaining expenses involve items we regularly replace anyway, such as letterhead, Connect Cards, pens, and other printed materials, so those costs are already part of our normal budget.
We will also update all of our outdoor signage, which we expect to cost less than $1,000.

You can submit additional questions in advance for the family meeting. This will help us maximize our time together on Sunday evening.
