WHY JESUS MATTERS
Who is Jesus—and Why Does He Matter to You?
A lot of people wonder how they can know for sure they’re going to heaven. One common idea is that if we just do enough good things—help others, live kindly, be generous—then surely God will accept us. After all, isn’t that what He wants?
But Jesus offers something even better: not a scoreboard to measure our good versus bad, but a relationship—based on grace, not performance.
Jesus Isn’t Just a Good Teacher—He’s the Savior
Jesus lived a perfect life, died for our sins, and rose again. But He didn’t do that just to be remembered—He did it so we could be rescued. The Bible tells us:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
— John 3:16
Jesus is the full expression of God’s love for you. He came not just to teach us about heaven, but to make a way for us to be there with Him—forever.
Why We Need Jesus
Even when we try to be good, we fall short. Every person has sinned—done things we knew were wrong, hurt people, chosen selfishness over love. The Bible puts it this way:
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
— Romans 3:23
That sin separates us from God. And the reality is, no amount of good deeds can erase our guilt or make us right with a perfect God.
“For the wages of sin is death...”
— Romans 6:23
That might sound heavy—but here’s the good news: God made a way.
What Jesus Did for You
Jesus didn’t wait for you to clean up your life before stepping in. He saw our need and came to rescue us:
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8
He took the penalty of our sin on Himself by dying on the cross. And then He rose again, proving He has power over death—and over anything that could separate us from God.
How You Can Have a Relationship with Jesus
You don’t earn salvation—it’s a gift.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9
So what do you do? Believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord. Trust that He died and rose again for you. And receive Him—personally.
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
— Romans 10:9
