Moon Pies, Sun Chips & the Eclipse

Well, how did your Monday turn out for you? Did you grab some glasses and run outside to see the eclipse? Now mind you, I was a bit ho-hum about the whole event. Too many dooms day reports. If Jesus was coming back, I had a lot of stuff to do…but I wasn’t counting on it since “no man knows the day…”

But I have a class on Mondays and the students were super pumped.

I picked up some Moon Pies and Sun Chips along with dark glasses for everyone. When the time came, we ran outside in the “eerie” dark to watch the final stage of the sun being completely covered by the moon.

I let the kids climb onto the roof of my house…very carefully. They were giddy with excitement as we watched the sky turn dark and the gradual eclipse of the sun.

Nearby, is South Garland High School and we could hear the cries of awe as the students were allowed to watch from the school yard.

We were thousands of feet apart and we couldn’t even see each other, yet you could hear us all cry out together…aww, this is amazing!!!!!

Think about it. Everyone was looking up at the same time and standing in awe of God’s amazing creation!!

What a testament to His creative power!! What a testament to His mathematical precision!!

Scientists can predict an eclipse hundreds of years in advance. We knew way before Monday when the eclipse would be visible, what time of the day it would appear and how long it would last!! People came from hundreds of miles away and even flew to Texas from other countries to view this event.

Why? Because they believed it was going to happen. They believed in the precision of the created order.

And yet, it is unthinkable that all this mathematical precision could result from some chaotic, random chance occurrences. People, schools, workplaces, and scientists all over the world banked on creation’s precision.

Our God is a God of order and it couldn’t have been more clear than on the day of this event!!!

I love it, that many who don’t even believe in a Creator looked up to see the wonder of God and found themselves unwittingly standing in awe.

Oh yes, “the heavens declare the glory of God and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge…” Psalm 19:1-2

I can never understand people who say that truth is relative. Like we can make it up and it shifts from generation to generation to accommodate cultural opinion. Truth is, what is. And if it exists in the physical realm, then why could there not be truth in the spiritual realm?!!!

If there is truth and beauty in the heavens; then by golly, there is truth and beauty on the earth, and we can count on it.

More importantly, we can count on Him.
